Another Song in the Style of Another

Further to Gyppo Byard's latest one song in the style of another entertainment, which features a Transylvanian ensemble, I'd like to present Fanfare Ciocârlia. Heck, you probably already know them, they're very big in Japan (imagine... you're shunned for being a dirty gyppo by the slappers in your native Moldova only to then get legions of Japanese teenagers screaming and throwing their knickers at you). This is their version of Born to Be Wild, as featured on that film of the Mr Borat, who's a pula:

  1. I just love those farting trumpet numbers.

  2. I'm debating whether to post up the KNOB's version of "Wild Thing" (featuring moi on lead vocals) at the last European Oompah Band Championships. It brought the house down.

  3. Storming! I shall share this with my daughter to encourage her studies on the tuba (she's currently learning baritone until large enough for the real thing).

Like Jews, Roma are often wasted on the Europeans, it must be said.

  4. What about the Argyle Style's version of "Life is a Rollercoaster"?

    Best cover. EVER.

  5. Oh. I found this difficult to sing along to, I had the lyrics in front of me... but I've now upset the cat.
Please, please Daphne, put up the Youtube.

  7. Me too, Bananas, I don't know what it is but there's something very primal about them.

Daphers, so The KNOB really exists and toi was in it?? You've gotta show us this, purleez!!

This should indeed encourage her, Gyppo, though what kind of parent are you making her play the tuba?! ;-) I had to play the euphonium (is that the same as a baritone?) in our skool band when they realised how crap I was on the trumpet. There's plenty to be said on the Jews/Gypsies thing, but it's maybe a longer discussion.

Señor Meteor, welcome to you! Argyle Style don't exist as a band, my friend, as far as YouTube etc are concerned - can you elaborate? (And are you the many-headed, multiple-personalitied Julian of blog legend, by the way?)

Scarley, you've just got to shout "born to be wild" in the chorus, that's the gist of the song - your cat will understand this, I'm sure. I shall revisit your Mrs Pouncer tribute henceforth. There's a lovely song about carnations here that I was listening to last night.

  8. Gadjo bor - I didn't encourage her! You think a sensible parent would encourage wilful tubage? (OK, so 'sensible parent wouldn't cover me anyway)

If I had a choice it would be something small and relatively quiet - the flute perhaps. No, tuba is her own choice, the result of the teachers from the local music centre coming to her school to drum up pupils for instrumental lesons and demonstrating various instruments. She came home with a messianic gleam in her eye saying "Daddy - I've decided I'm going to learn the tuba!" Fair enough. The only way she's practice is if it's a passion thing...

Scarls - one would have thought that 'born to be wild' was a sentiment cats could unite behind, while still maintaining their right to comfy chairs and beind fed on demand.

  9. Gyppo, wow, so the tuba is her own choice from the cornucopia of the world's musical instruments; you have to admire her individualism - unless of course she's simply using it to smuggle stuff into music lessons ;-) I seem to remember a guy called Herbie Flowers, who was perhaps the nearest thing to a tuba hero.
