Mrs Dilo and I are off tomorrow morning to my muvver country and will not have access to the Internet thang. I was commenting recently on Can Bass's blog how I liked the I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue lads' interpretation of Silent Night, to the tune of Tequila. I realised then that this festive season* tends to divide people into two camps. So, first up The Dickies with their endearingly faithful version of the carol. And then, for those of you not gathering around the manger, the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra with their alternative Christmas message - "We Need 5 Days Of Tequila" - which may be exactly what others of you are thinking. As Dave Allen used to say, may your God go with you!
* That's Hannakah and Winter Solstice too!

Its just gone noon
ReplyDeleteHalf past monsoon
On the banks of the river nile
Here comes the boat
Only half-afloat
Oarsman grins a toothless smile
Only just one more
To this desolate shore
Last boat along the river nile
etc...
And the first one... CCTV in a nearby town!
Happy Christmas Gadj!

Your mother country? Is this a ploy to celebrate two Christmas Days on 25/12 and 6/1?

ReplyDeleteTerrible, isn't it? Blighty is so blighted in its primitiveness. By next month the bins will remain unemptied and the dead unburied, and 50 million will be on the dole.
But we can still uphold the ancient national traditions and get absolutely bladdered for an entire week and a half.
May the blessings of the flying spaghetti monster be upon you and yours this yuletide.
Oh Mr Sedgemore [hello, we haven't been properly introduced, my name is Scarlet] you bring images of Dawn of the Dead to my mind...

Happy Christmas, Mr Dilo!
ReplyDeleteMy dear Madame Blue - surely you mean "Shaun of the Dead". "Dawn of the Dead" is far too silly.
ReplyDeleteGadj, I fear I have missed you. I am organising the blogmeet on the 23rd in Reading, if you read this before then please get in touch via my e-mail address on the blog. If we don't make contact, have a very merry Christmas in Blighty - and thank you for the music.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in the the third world Gadj old son.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a merry Thingy in the old country, Gadjo!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Gadj!!
ReplyDeleteHugs!

Thank you all for your greetings!
ReplyDeleteScarlet: It does sound a bit like that, you're right.
Bananas: It is, yes, and I can use the presents I get on 25/12 to give to people on 6/1 :-)
Blessings on you too, Sir Francis. And I've seen people with rickets here too.
You too, Mr Can Bass. I guess it's one of the few days of the year where people in your profession have to work, so may the force be with you :-)
Daph: neither you nor Madame Pouncer (who had the posibility a long time ago) replied to my emails with info for the arrangements for the meet on 23rd. Tell me about it when you resurface from your egg nog coma.
Thanks Baz, thanks Kev, spoken consisely like true men! I hope you have a good time too!
Gadjo! If you and the D-na are mobile you're more than welcome to come and stay at Chateau Boyo. We have fish and monkey juice, and are on a paved road.
ReplyDeleteCrăciun fericit!
Thanks a lot Boyo, I appreciate the invitation! Though I fear it is too late now, as we're entertaining relatives here in the little corner of Cockaigne that is Hemel Hempstead. We have given all our monkey juice away as presents to any relatives with a sense of humour, the rest get Dracula mugs, as usual. I'm re-extending our invitation to Cluj - we now have a fully furnished dungeon for guests.
ReplyDeleteGreetings to your lovely lady wife and Young Arianrhod. p.s. I dropped heavy hints with next door's dog and got a book of Dafydd ap Gwilym's poetry for Christmas :-)
Ardderchog!
ReplyDeleteSorry to have missed you this time, but we'll get busy before long I'm sure.
Hello Gadj! Are you still in England? Are you having a good time?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and all that kind of thing!
